UKRAINE Military Stamps
1920 Courier Field Post Issue, 10hr-40hr surcharges, the complete set of 15, mostly signed "Fischer Wien" and Mikulski, also additional 10gr on 10sh and 10gr on 50sh, plus inverted surcharge 20gr on 50sh, l.h., fine-v.f. The last major attempt by Ukrainian forces to regain control of their country was in June 1920, when a combined Ukrainian and Polish Army invaded from Poland and captured Podolia, Volhynia and part of Kiev Govts. The Bolsheviks counter-attacked and finally, on 21st November, Petlura and the remnants of the Ukrainian Army crossed into Poland, where they were interned. It was with this campaign, that Ukrainian Postal Service was required as a field post. A rarity (Bulat states only 15 of the last value issued. A similar set realized $2,100, plus buyer's premium, in our June 2011 sale).
