Lot #660
HUNGARY
1925 First Madonna Issue, 5,000kr dark green & yellow green, center inverted, well centered and light, virtually face free Budapest 72, Jan. 21, 1925 postmark. One of the premier Inverted Centers of 20th century Europe; less than 100 examples reported (from the single sheet of 100), with at least 38 tied up in museums, many with quality problems (especially among the used examples), leaving very few opportunities for a collector to obtain one of these beautiful rarities in sound condition, this one accompanied by a 2005 Gabor Visnyovsky AIEP certificate stating that stamp is genuine and in good condition, one of only a few known cancelled Budapest 72Y (the other known examples are cancelled Budapest "85"). A very fine Inverted Madonna, ex-Simon Wiesenthal collection (Mi.379I)
