 | Lot #925 PANAMA 1886 (16 Mar) cover from Panama to New York, franked with Colombia 10c orange, tied by cds, with corresponding docketing alongside, backstamped on arrival, with "U.S.S. Shenandoah." handstamp, fine. The U.S.S. Shenandoah was a wooden screw sloop of the United States Navy, built in 1862, with long service during the Civil War and thereafter. She arrived off Panama in 1885, her crew protecting American property there during revolt against the Colombian Government. The Shenandoah continued to cruise for protection of the American mercantile marine, calling at Panama and Acapulco, finally decommissioned in 1886
