ECUADOR The Eivind Lund Gold Medal Collection
1865-72 The six Frame Exhibit, beautifully mounted and professionally written up on 96 pages (including eight double pages to accommodate large multiples and sheets). The Senate of deputies of the Republic of Ecuador authorized three printing plates for the purpose of printing postage stamps of the country. Four denominations were chosen including Medio Real (blue), Un Real (orange), Un Real (green) and Quatro Real (red). The first three stamps were based on the same frame, ring of pearls and corner decorations as the first stamps of France (1853) and Greece (1862). The Quatro Real stamps was based on the first stamps of Mexico. There are numerous highlights including medio Real blue on blue surfaced paper, complete sheet of 84, originating from the second printing in 1869, possessing complete marginal rules, showing the characteristic uneven alignment of transfers and the usual natural surface irregularities.
