Lot #2001
RUSSIA - ZEMSTVO AKHTYRKA
1879 (19 Sep) cover used locally within the district of Akhtyrka in the Kharkov province, carried from the Zemstvo sub-office at the volost administration in Krasnopolye to the village of Popovka. Being a private letter, it was prepaid and franked with imperforate 5k green (1872 issue, ample margins all around, little toning), cancelled and dated (according to regulations) by manuscript "Krasn(opolye) 19 Sep 1879" (no conventional postmarks are known from the Akhtyrka Zemstvo Post); arrival docketing at top indicates that the letter was received on 8th of October (travelling for 19 days), by Justice of the Peace, Negrebetski. On back of the cover, there are several hinges and some peripheral ageing and toning, central wax seal excised. A classic Zemstvo rarity, ex-Dr.Greis and Paolo Bianchi collections, with 2005 Dr.Greis certificate ("RRRR - presently I know only two genuine covers from Akhtyrka")
