 | Lot #710 GREAT BRITAIN 1840 1d black, plate 1a, lettered A-L, large margins including sheet margin at right, cancelled by red Maltese Cross (slightly oxidized), sent from Denny, May 16, 1840 to Falkirk, arriving on Sunday, May 17, 1840, both departure and arrival pmks on back. The stamp was originally partially stuck to the lettersheet by sealing wax (an unusual method used in the first months of adhesive, as people were generally wary of the gum on reverse), which has been removed, slightly thinning the lettersheet, still v.f. and scarce Sunday arrival date, with Holcombe certificate (SG A1tg)
