| Lot #348 MARITIME MAIL IN THE AMERICAS PERU 1858 (28 Sep) incoming outer wrapper from Bordeaux to Arequipa, paying 1.60fr with 2x80c Empire, tied by lozenge "441," with framed "P.P." indicating postage had been paid to the port of entry in Peru, London transit (30 Sep), carried to Southampton and put on the steamship "Magdalena," which departed for St. Thomas (arriving 16 Oct). From there, the mails were transferred to the "Dee," which departed St. Thomas on 17 October and arrived at Colon on the 22nd. From Colon, the mails made the Panama transit and were carried down the coast to Peru by the Pacific Steamship Navigation Company. It is possible that the cover was handled by the British officials in Arequipa, as there are no Peruvian postal markings
