 | Lot #352 MARITIME MAIL IN THE AMERICAS PERU 1864 (July) cover to Stafford, with the crest of "H.M.S. Leander" (a 50 gun 4th rate ship of the line) and annotated "27 July Callao" on back, franked with 6d lilac, cancelled by the foreign branch pmk on arrival in England. The rate was 6d (officer's rate) and 6d for the New Granada (Panama) transit, indicated in manuscript. The cover being short paid, received "More to Pay" handstamp on front, with London transit and Stafford arrival cds on reverse. Most likely route was from Callao to Colon, from there on the "Tyne" to St. Thomas and on the "Shannon" to Southampton, fine
