 | Lot #287 MARITIME MAIL IN THE AMERICAS HAITI 1877 (3 Sep) FL from Jacmel to New York, franked with 4d sage green (pl.15), cancelled with "C59" in oval, red departure cds alongside, "Jamaica Transit" handstamp on front, Kingston cds on back, carried on the Royal Mail steamer "Tasmanian" to Jamaica and by the British Atlas line steamer "Atlas" from there to USA, with New York "Paid All" duplex receiving mark on back. While Haiti did not join the UPU until 1881, this letter was received at New York without further charge since it was routed via Jamaica (which was a member of the Postal Union since 1st April, 1877)  | Price Realized $475.00 |
