1898 (Sep) cover (opened for display) from John Bremner Purvis at Gayaza, sent to Durham, redirected internally several times, returned to Mombasa (25.6.99), sent via Zanzibar (16 Sep), franked with 4a typeset (small "o" in "Postage" variety), cancelled by blue crayon cross, used in combination with B.E.A. 2 1/2a Victoria, tied by Mombasa cds in blue, also by Edmondsley transit (12 Oct) pmk, numerous, apparently unsuccessful attempts to deliver the letter in England, with notations and hand struck markings such as "Undelivered For Reasons Stated", boxed "Pas trouve / not found", both in violet, "Returned Letter Branch/Newcastle on Tyne" etc., fine and well travelled, appealing cover
