Around September 1933 in Platanillos, which is situated on the Bolivian side of the effective demarcation line that existed at the start of the conflict, supplies of stamps were running low. The postmaster decided to create a provisional issue for use as the supplementary airmail service until further supplies of stamps were obtained. Some of the existing stocks of the 1928 5c green were therefore surcharged in carmine.
