1933 "Habilitada/Correo Aereo/30 Cts/Platanillos" provisional red surcharge on 5c green (Andean Condor), surcharge reading up, used, fine, with 2001 Brian Moorhouse certificate ("this provisional was prepared during the Chaco War fought between Bolivia and Paraguay in the 1932-35 period. Around September 1933 in Platanillos, which is situated on the Bolivian side of the effective demarcation line that existed at the start of the conflict, supplies of stamps were running low. The postmaster decided to create a provisional issue for use as the supplementary airmail service until further supplies of stamps were obtained. Some of the existing stocks of the 1928 5c green were therefore surcharged in carmine. This was the only provisional issue made by either side during the war and it is estimated that no more than 30-40 copies of the stamp have survived")

1920 Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aerea was founded September 28, 1919. In February 1920, the C.C.N.A. obtained a franchise to fly between Cartagena and Barranquilla and was authorized to issue its own stamps. This was facilitated by overprinting "Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aerea Porte Aereo" and surcharging "$0.10" on the Curtiss Aereo Plane & Motor Co. advertising labels. Less than 100 of each of the nine types were produced. These stamps were used on two first flights on February 22, 1920 from Cartagena and returning March 4 from Barranquilla. In July 1920, the air mail concession was passed to SCADTA. The C.C.N.A. ceased to operate in April, 1922. This lot consists of the complete set of nine values, unused without gum as issued, fresh and in very fine condition, with large margins all around, without the usual faults that plague this most popular air post issue, signed Herbert Bloch, Sanabria, Irwin Heiman, Enzo Diena and others, with Friedl Expert Committee certificates from the 1970s and

It was at the time, the highest price ever paid for one stamp in a public auction in America (it was exceeded only by the British Guyana price in the Ferrary sale i

This cover, with docket inside indicating the origin of this cover as from Caracas, enabled the origin of this cancellation to be determined. One of only two covers in existence with this monogram cancel (also with only two further copies off cover recorded), filing fold and tears through the stamp, additional folds and some toning, with small part of lettersheet missing from back.
