1938 Second Trans-Polar Flight Moscow to San Jacinto, original photograph of the three fliers, autographed by each (Andrei Yumashev, Mikhail Gromov and Sergei Danilin), with Shirley Temple (held by Gromov), v.f., rare (The journey, via the North Pole, covered 11,500 kilometers (7,100 mi) and ended in a dairy pasture outside of San Jacinto, California after the fliers encountered fog conditions in San Diego and as far inland as March Air Force base in Riverside. The landing site is marked by California State Historical Landmark Number 989. The crew, flew for 62 hours and 17 minutes between 12 and 14 July 1937. Upon their arrival in California, the Soviet aviators became instant darlings of the American press and at one point traded autographs with Shirley Temple during their tour of Hollywood)
