Only 91 examples of the 15 cent 1869 Pictorial invert are recorded in the Trepel census. Of these, very few are sound and with perforations clear all around. This example is considered to be one of the top four or five in existence. The Trepel census of 1869 Inverts contains 91 examples of the 15c Invert, including three unused and 88 used (one in the British Library's Tapling collection and three No. 119c varieties). Only twelve to fifteen used copies are estimated to be sound, including copies with tiny corner creases. More than half are noted to be seriously faulty or repaired. This stamp, with its rich colors, cancel that does not obscure the design, and sound condition, ranks among the top four or five (Scott's Catalogue note: "most ex

1869 24c green and violet, center inverted, neat circle of wedges cancel leaving design clearly visible, rich colors on bright paper, well centered, v.f. and rare, sound example, with 1987 PFC. There are only 89 known copies existing including four unused and the unique used block of four. Of the used singles, the vast majority have some degree of faults, with only 15 or so believed to be in sound condition. The Trepel 1869 Invert census (with unpublished updates) contains 88 copies of the perforated 24c Invert, including four unused stamps, two used pairs and the unique used block of four. Of these, there are very few sound singles where the perforations are clear of the design on all four sides (Scott's Catalogue note: "most examples of No. 120b are faulty. Values are for fine centered examples with only minimal faults.")

The inverted stamp removed and replaced on this cover of origin. The cover with a large sealed tear at top center.” This is the only recorded usage of an 1869 Inverted Center on cover. Green (sold in the Eugene Costales 1945 Sale), Lilly (1967), Hewitt, Kelly, David Zlowe, Grunin and Walske (Lafayette) collections, with 2004 PFC stating “unused, center inverted, imperforate single without grill, genuine”. This stamp was originally part of a set of seven imperf. values from the 1869 Issue, all unique. This is a must have for the ultimate 1869 specialist and for the Rarities of the World connoisseur. It should be noted that the perforated, unused 24c invert is catalogued in Scott's at $750,000; the unique imperf. Is unlisted

United States 1979 "CIA" Invert
1979 $1.00 Rush Lamp & Candle Holder, intaglio brown color inverted, n.h., v.f., with 2001 APS cert. The CIA invert is the one of the most well known inverted color errors in United States collecting. These stamps were discovered by an on-duty CIA employee who teamed up with some colleagues to purchase the pane from a post office. Saving a copy each, the group later sold the bulk of the sheet to a prominent stamp dealer. News of the error reached CIA officials who sought to claim ownership and US Postal authorities who tried to recover the stamps. Official queries, threats, and even job losses followed the group until the sale of the pane was ruled legal. Only about 80-85 copies exist. Because the number of existing CIA inverts approximately equals the number of existing Inverted Jennies (C3a), many speculate that current values for 1610c are far too low; examples of C3a regularly bring six-figure sums at auction,

A matchless set of the greatest importance, $2 and $20 being largest known multiples of its value (according to the research of the noted student of Official stamps, Robert Markovits, there were only two sheets of 10 each of the $5 and $20 inverts produced, and only one sheet of the $2 value. The $10 was not produced with the center inverted),

UNITED STATES - REVENUES Revenue Stamps
1871 Third Issue, 2c orange and black, center inverted, horizontal block of six, unused with slightly disturbed original gum, well centered and fresh, v.f. This is the largest recorded multiple of the 2 cent Third Issue Revenue Invert. It is also the largest original gum block of any 19th Century United States Invert. According to the most definitive source on revenue multiples, there exists this block of six, three blocks of four, and two pairs of the 2c Third Issue Invert in multiples. This block is the largest and finest known, with a clean 2002 PFC (at one point in the past it was described with a tiny thin, but there is none, and the Philatelic Foundation certificate confirms its sound condition)

UNITED STATES Revenue Stamps
1871 60c orange and black, center inverted, plate proof on card, foreign entry of 70c, rare double transfer of the frame that shows strongly at the top and is one of the best positions that shows that this is an entry of the 70c rather than the 60c (there are actually five positions that show double transfers that may be foreign entries), large margins all around, strong colors and sharp impressions, v.f. This is the unique foreign entry from this position as there was only one sheet of 85 printed; listed but unpriced in Scott's; signed Sloane, with 2006 PFC stating “genuine, lightly toned” (actually, there is no toning but the paper is yellowish)

1909 1c dark green and black, center inverted and Canal Zone reading down, a magnificent used example of one of the most famous of all of the Canal Zone errors, only four copies (!) all used, exist. George W. Wirth discovered the first copy of this error in 1932 (23 years after issue) and removed it from a postcard sent by a gentleman to his sister. The second example (with clipped perforations at left) was found in the1950s. A third (badly defective) copy turned up in 1969. The example offered here was the last of the four, discovered in 1979 and by far the best centered of the four existing. In addition, it possesses deep rich color on bright paper, violet Cristobal cds, faint crease not mentioned on accompanying certificate, the perforations at right are scissor separated typical of the handmade booklet panes, which is also a trait of the other three examples, making it likely that the error sheet was produced in this way, which makes it even more astonishing that the error was not noticed, very fine;

A showpiece with 1983 PFC, approximately 400 copies exist, making this plate block a premier Canadian rarity. As was the policy of the Canadian Post Office during this time period, sheets of stamps supplied to the various post offices had the selvage inscriptions (and plate numbers) trimmed off to reduce the number of broken panes in post office stocks (caused by collector requests). The only way collectors could obtain plate number blocks were from sheets that were supplied through the Philatelic Service of the post office. The famous Seaway Invert found its way to the public through purchases by customers at regular post office windows, so no traditional inscription plate blocks. The accepted plate block positions would be blank corner sheet margin blocks, such as the on

1854 4a red and blue, Head Inverted, first printing, Head Die I, a handsome used example of this important classic rarity, being neatly cut to shape as nearly all known examples are found, with frame lines just touched at a few points, with diamond of dots cancel, thin at upper left, small tear at foot, with 1980 Royal and 2002 BPA certificates. This is example XXV (illustrated in Williams' "Rare and Famous Stamps"). The 4 Anna "Inverted Head" of India is one of the legendary rarities in 19th century philately. Ever since the first one was publicly exhibited in 1874 at the Royal Philatelic Society of London this major error has fascinated generations of collectors and has been sought after by most of the world's most prominent philatelists. To date, there are just 27 confirmed examples of this stamp, only three of which are cut square. Why the vast majority of these rarities are cut to shape is a matter of some speculation. The most popular scenario is that these errors were discovered very early on and som

1920 1sh bright orange and orange, frame Inverted, bottom margin single, l.h., v.f. According to most accounts this "Inverted Frame" variety was discovered by a local collector at the small Post Office in Manchioneal, a village on the coast of Jamaica in March 1922. It is presumed that only one sheet of 60 must have had the error, with half the sheet going to Manchioneal and some being fiscally used, while, more than likely, the other half sheet going to Kingston, as a used copy of the error exists with a Kingston cancellation. Estimates vary among specialists as to the exact number of these errors that still exist - some as low as only ten - to no more than approximately 20. This beautiful example is accompanied by a 2004 Royal cert. (SG 85a)

Only three examples are recorded of this famous rarity. This error was first discovered in 1983 (nearly thirty years after its issuance) by a collector in the United States who found it in a stock book among his duplicates. A second example was found in 1992 in a glassine containing common stamps and was auctioned in 1993 by Christies (described also as slight creasing). The third example, which is offered here was last seen in the Peter Balner Collection of Inverted Centers of the World (also discovered in a mixture of common stamps in 1996). When a customer, who went to buy a stamp for his overseas mail noticed the error, he came back and purchased the remaining seven stamps (by this time half the pane had already been sold to public and are likely to have been used on mail and subsequently discarded). One of the examples has been sold back to New Zealand Post and is currently displayed in the New Zealand National Museum at Te Papa as the most significant NZ stamp error after the 1905 4d Taupo inverted center error. The current error was found shortly after release and once NZ Post heard of this problem, the remaining stamps were withdrawn from circulation.
