1900 (1June) cover (with full letter) from Hong Kong carried by "USS Don Juan de Austria" (built in 1887 at Cartagena, Spain, for the Spanish Navy, sunk in shallow water on 1 May 1898 in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War, she was raised from Manila Bay under contract and overhauled and refitted at Hong Kong. From 5 June 1900 to 18 October 1900 Don Juan de Austria was anchored off Canton, China, to protect American interests during the Boxer Rebellion) to Macao, franked with 10c Provisional surcharge and sent to USA, with "Received 1" and Binghamton (July 3) arrival. A fine Boxer Rebellion usage (letter mentions the British High Command, their Irish origins etc.)
