From January 5, 1904 to November 11, 1905, a United States Marine guard (under the command of Lieut. Douglas C. McDougal USMC) was sent to protect the American Legation in Seoul during the Russo Japanese War. This cover may well have been from a member of the Marines assigned to that guard
