| Lot #1728 ITALIAN STATES Lombardy-Venetia 1850 45 centesimi gray ultramarine (azurro scuro), vertically laid paper (carta a coste verticali), block of six (3x2), fairly ample margins, cut little close to just touching at top and bottom, tied by six strikes of "Venezia 8 Dec" datestamps on large outer folded letter (l'involucro di plico) addressed to Crema, with arrival pmk. The letter has been refolded to improve appearance, with intact seal still on reverse, signed Bolaffi, with 2007 Giorgio Colla certificate which records this to be the largest known multiple of the laid paper ("il massimo multiplo e me noto del 45 centesimi costolato, straordinaria rarita"). This block of six on cover is not priced in any catalogues. As a point of reference, we note that an ordinary block of four of 45c (Sass.10) is priced at Euro 240,000 on cover.
