CHINA
1912 $1 red and flesh, "Chung Hwa Min Kuo" inverted overprint, clear cancellation Kuang-Tong, Kuan-Chow (Canton), June 17, 1st year (1912), fine and beautiful example of one of the great rarities of the early Republic, signed Livingston, ex-Pedersen. Mr. Brun Pedersen (from Copenhagen), a famous collector of Chinese stamps, purchased this inverted overprint from Gebruder Senf (Leipzig). It was included in his London 1960 exhibit, which was subsequently auctioned by Stanley Gibbons in February 1980. This is the fourth copy referenced by Henry Nyi ("The Inverted Overprint Chung Hwa Min Kuo", "The China Clipper", Vol. 56, No. 6, pages 196-199). There are less than 10 fully documented examples known. A comparable copy of this error was last sold in January 2010 in Hong Kong for KH$207,000 ($26,500US)
