 | Lot #1773 ITALY 1879 30 centesimi brown, horizontal pair, also 30 centesimi dark brown, two horizontal pairs (originally a strip of four), plus single 20c orange (rounded upper right corner), tied by Roma 21.12. 1889 cds on registered cover paying a total 2 Lire to London, with violet and red crayon due markings, 24 December arrival pmk on back, minor overall toning, filing fold away from the stamps, part of backflap missing, otherwise fine cover, all the 30c stamps without defects, signed R.Friedl (Wien), E.Diena, Bolaffi etc., with 1984 Enzo Diena and 1996 Sorani certificates. Diena states that only four covers are recorded with 30c franking, most from the same Melfi correspondence, this being the only known with two different shades.
