UNITED STATES Flight Covers
1933 (June 3) Attempted Round the World Solo Flight by Jimmy Mattern, who attempted to circle the globe in record time. Leaving New York on 3rd June, he flew nonstop to Jomfruland, Norway. The next stop was Moscow, but he was lost near Anadyr, Siberia and no communication was received for two weeks. Jimmy was finally rescued by the famous Russian flyer Levanevsky and flew on his plane to Nome, Alaska. From there, Mattern secured another airplane and continued back to New York. He carried a few covers which have postmarks showing the history of the flight: New York (June 3), Jomflunad (June 4), Moscow (June 5), Khabarovsk (June 12), Krasnoyarsk (June 9), Amadyr (July 5), Edmonton (July 27), and on reverse Juneau (July 25) and Fairbanks (July 23), minor toning and cover wear and tear, signed Jimmy Mattern
