GERMAN EAST AFRICA Wartime Mail to the Outside
1914 (22.7) registered cover franked with 3x7 1/2h, from a plantation owner in Moschi to a relative, care of the German Consulate in Baghdad, Asian Turkey. This cover was posted just before the outbreak of war, paying for registered mail within the German Empire, hence taxed "T25c(entimes), carried on a French steamer of the "La Reunion a Marseille No.2" line (postmark on back) to a Turkish port (France and Turkey were not at war until November 1914), handstamped "Stopped by Censor" (English) and also by Turkish censor (endorsements on back), cover faults, otherwise fine
