 | Lot #114 GERMAN EAST AFRICA The Arab Corps 1914 (30 Nov) feldpostcard to Amani, from "Pauly, Araberkorps, Makinjumbe" (a village on the Pangani River, south of Muhesa), with violet "Kaiserl.Gouvernement in Deutsch-Ostafrika Bez. Tanga" seal of the Tanga district used as a censorship cachet, light toning, otherwise fine, only known mail from the Arab Corps with the German Army. The All Arab Volunteer Corps ("Arabische Korps") was formed in 1914, under the command of Oberleutnant Hengstenberg. It is reported to have been about 350 strong and fought on the Northern frontier of German East Africa at the Battle of Jassin in early 1915. In action the unit proved unreliable and it was soon disbanded
