1916 free frank cover with official "Kaiserliche Schutztruppe f. Deutsche Ostafrika" seal, overwritten by "Zensiert", addressed to Bureau Internationale de la Paix in Bern, Switzerland, showing faint "Passed Censor/C.T.Dsm" hs on front and another on back, large "Opened under Martial Law." label, fine, signed Bothe, BPP. While there was sporadic interchange of mail between the opposing sides under Flags of Truce, the surviving covers are very rare

1916 (Nov) free frank cover "To the front", from his wife interned at the Schlesien mission station outside Morogoro, to Lieutenant A. Batzner, a company commander in the Schutztruppe, with handstamps of the German "Zensur passiert Deutch-Ostafrika" seal; and British "Passed by Censor No.3285", fine. Lt. Batzner was killed during the battle of Lukuledi in October 1917

1917 (Jan) free frank cover from Feldwebel Paul Devers, with the Schutztruppe in the South, to his wife Ella, interned at the Schlesien mission station outside Morogoro. It was censored by government adjutant Dr.Dietrich, with violet "Zensur passiert Deutch-Ostafrika" seal, before being passed across the lines during the 1916-17 holiday season mail exchange permitted by the British, with "Passed Censor/C.T.Dsm" (Dar-es-Salaam) hs on front and another on back, large "Opened under Martial Law." Feldwebel Dietrich, a prominent businessman in Dar-es-Salaam before the War, was killed on patrol later that month
