GERMAN EAST AFRICA One Rupie Stamp delivered by Blockade Runner
1905-16 1r red watermarked, July 1916 "Kilossa" cancel with small "Berlin 16" year date, centered slightly to upper left, few minor perf. creases and paper faults, otherwise v.f., with 2000 Pauligk cert. Only a small number of 1r watermarked stamps reached the Colony via the blockade runner "Marie" in March 1916. The stamps reached the post offices in early June and most of the 40 or so known examples were used on parcel cards on the Central Railroad during a brief period prior to being overtaken by Allied Forces. This is one of only three known used from Kilossa. The used 1r has often been called the "Queen of German East Africa Philately,"
