 | Lot #105 GERMAN EAST AFRICA Kriegsnachrichten - War News Cards 1914-16 After the outbreak of War in 1914, the Tanga weekly newspaper "Usambara Post" distributed 608 war bulletins. The series ended in June, 1916, shortly before the British occupied the town. Printed in postcard-like format, they were mailed to subscribers at the printed matter rate of 2 1/2 heller. The news was gathered primarily from Reuters dispatches on monitored British wireless broadcasts, although when atmospheric conditions were idea, transmissions from the Nauen station near Berlin could be received as well. A selection of three cards (Bulletin No.91, No.272 and 375), all to Amani, one franked with 2 1/2h adhesive (31.10.14); the other, Bulletin 252 (30.5.15) with cash franking (Friedemann BF14) (interesting contents which mention the British HMS "Triumph" sunk by a U-boat, as well as the siege of Przemysl); finally Bulletin 373 (13.9.15), with two cards, cash franking (Friedemann BF12)
