LARGE LOTS & COLLECTIONS POLAND - DISPLACED PERSONS IN POST WAR GERMANY
1945-47 As Europe was liberated at the end of World War II, a virtual flood of ex-prisoners from Concentration Camps, Labor Camps and Prisoner of War Camps found themselves stranded as refugees. They were classified as Displaced Persons and had to remain in various refugee camps which were established by the SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces), with the help of International Red Cross and UNRAA. Most Polish refugees ended up in American and British sectors of occupied Germany. Murnau (offlag VIIA) became a Polish Military Center and Lubeck, in the British Zone, became a point for the collection and distribution of mail for the numerous camps housing Polish nations. This award winning exhibit (78 pages) consists of 83 covers or cards, also issued stamps, souvenir sheets, labels, varieties and collateral items, highlights include the Lubecka - Libertas stamp with Pohls 7.5.45 arrival handstamp, also proofs in red and blue, used on card and covers with Poczta Polska FPO cancels, Camp Ver
