ICELAND Zeppelin Flights
1931 Zeppelin overprints, 30a and 1k showing "fish-hook" variety ("1" of 1 Krona), used on flown picture postcard (Zeppelin over Reykjavik), sent via Friedrichshafen to Mr. Palsson in Reykjavik, fine. The airship flew over Iceland on a continuation of the Northland Arctic flight of 1930. The 30a prepaid registration fee, but this card is not registered, which is unusual as this practice was not permitted by the postal authorities, possibly unique (Si.114B, var, Lucanc 4B++)

1931 Iceland Flight, legal size envelope headed "Norcross-Bartlett Expedition", franked with 2kr Zeppelin, addressed to New York, with Norcross Greenland Sea Expedition stationery letter ("Greetings from Reykjavik, if this reaches you it should go to Germany from Iceland on the Graf Zeppelin"), fine and properly franked cover, with Friedrichshafen (3.7) arrival. The Norcross-Bartlett Expedition to Northeast Greenland was carried out for the Smithsonian Institution, Heye Foundation, American Museum of Natural History, and the New York Botanical Garden to gather flowering plants for Botanical Gardens; specimens of wild fowl for the Museum of Natural History and seals for the Ocean Hall of Life. In addition to this they carried out oceanographic, hydrographic and meteorological work for the US Navy
