1914 G.R.I. surcharges (first setting, 6 1/2 apart) on stamps of New Guinea, three pieces, franked with a total of six stamps including 1d on 3pf, 1d on 5pf; 1d on 5pf and 3d on 25pf (defective); 1d on 3pf and 2d on 10pf, all cancelled by "Stephansort 13" cds, with notations alongside, occasional flaws and little toning, otherwise fine-v.f. All these stamps are printed from (Gibbs) Setting 9 (A) which as of December 1996 were unknown, in any case very rare according to the Holcombe certificates accompanying this lot (SG 1/7var, catalogue as ordinary used stamps)
