MEXICO
1825-78 Transatlantic Forwarding Agents, six-frame exhibit containing 103 covers (FLs) to and from Mexico. In the absence of formal international postal ties for many nations, forwarders provided a link between official and private systems to expedite mail. Forwarding agents normally arranged for the receipt and dispatch of communications. While they rarely carried the mail themselves, they had close ties with shipping companies and occasionally collected small fees for their services. The majority of the items in this exhibit are from United States, England and France, arranged geographically by locations where forwarders operated and where much of the mail was exchanged. Mexican cities come first (Guanajuato to London, Mexico and Veracruz incl. "acheminee par Leverger Frs Vera Cruz", "Acheminee Ms Aloe..
