 | Lot #555 FRANCE Air Post 1870 (19.10) Ballon Monte, folded letter on usual flimsy paper, endorsed "par ballon monte", partially covered by the two 40c Ceres adhesives, paying 80c and tied by large star (14) pmks, with corresponding Paris R.de Strasbourg departure cds, also red "P.P." hs, carried on "Le Garibaldi" to St.Petersburg, Russia. The letter is addressed to "Monsieur Olivier coiffeur maison Demidoff" and on arrival, the postal clerk inserted "Olivier, barber" in Cyrillic letters, with two different St.Petersburg arrival pmks, one for incoming foreign mail (27 Oct. 1870, eight o'clock), the other for local delivery, also with oval "frankirovano" (franked) in blue, filing folds and minimal paper erosion, fine and exceptional ballon monte to Russia, only a few known with arrival postmark, with 1982 Jean-François Brun and Soluphil (R.Goebel) certificates  | Price Realized $37,500.00 |
