 | Lot #656 GUATEMALA 1881 (30.7) "via Guatemala" route, FL from London, franked with 3x4p (equals 1sh) sent via Panama and Guatemala to Tapachula, Mexico, with Punta Arenas (main Pacific port of Costa Rica) 1.9.81 transit pmk (extremely rare) at left, also Guatemala City 10.9. 1881 in red on back, filing folds and other small flaws, otherwise fine and unusual item, sent only two days before Guatemala became a member of the U.P.U. (on 18.8.1881). Mexico entered the U.P.U. on 1.4. 1879, hence no transit fee was charged by Guatemala to Mexico  | Price Realized $1,400.00 |
