GUATEMALA
1864 (15.9) incoming outer FL from Paris, franked with horizontal strip of 3x80c, paying triple rate (80c per 7 1/2g) via London and Panama, taxed on reverse "4" in ms, corresponding to double rate at 2r per 1/2oz (as per postal tariff of 20 April 1861). The letter is addressed to Pedro de Aycinena who was Foreign Minister ca.1854 to 1865 and mail to him had to be fully prepaid, as evidenced by the boxed "P.P." applied on deposit. The "franco" hs was applied at San Jose, the Pacific Coast port of arrival in Guatemala. A small tear at bottom, otherwise fresh and fine letter
