| Lot #1227 ITALY 1862 (12 Nov) FL from Milan to Giuseppe Verdi in St.Petersburg, Russia, franked with perf. 40c red and imperf. 2x80c Sardinia (both cut in at top or bottom, another stamp missing at left), all tied by faint Milano cds, with red French Lanslebourg (15 Nov) and Prussian "Aachen Franco" (16 Nov) transits, reverse bears Torino (13 Nov) and St. Petersburg arrival pmks. Contents contain the compliments of Mr. Ricordi for the success of Verdi's opera "La Forza del Destino" performed in St. Petersburg at the time, filing folds and some tape stains away from the stamps, scarce letter to one of the world's greatest composers Catalog #20-21 | Unsold
