 | Lot #190 SOVIET UNION 1924 Lenin Mourning Issue 1924 (10.3) home-made cover (actually Imperial military lettersheet, opened for display) franked with a privately made imitation of 6k Lenin Mourning Issue, tied by oval Petrograd pmk, addressed to a Red Army soldier in Leningrad, with 13.3. transit and 14.3.24 arrival pmks. An interesting postal history item, which passed unmolested through the post offices shortly after Lenin's death (Jan.21), without notice of attempted postal fraud (ironically, since the addressee was in the army, he had free-frank privileges and no stamp was necessary). Late usage of the "Petrograd" postmark, since the name change (Petrograd to Leningrad) went into effect on 26 January, 1924
