 | Lot #720 MEXICO FRENCH SHIPS - 1866-67 Mixed Frankings 1866 FL from Mexico City, January 9 to Madrid, via the French Consular Agency ("Mexique" 13 January departure pmk), franked with Mexican 4r Eagle, used in combination with French 80c Empire (faulty), carried by the steamer "France" to Spain, with "4R" postage due handstamp in red, transit and arrival postmarks on back, signed Calves. A major rarity of Mexican and French philately, one of only six such combination frankings recorded

 | Lot #721 MEXICO FRENCH SHIPS - 1866-67 Mixed Frankings 1867 FL from Veracruz, January 13 to France, franked with 13 centavos Maximilian (Vera Cruz 128-1866), tied by "Franqueado Vera Cruz" departure datestamp, used in combination with French postage pre-paid with 80 centimes Empire, tied by "anchor" lozenge of the Consular Agency at Veracruz, boxed "PD" (paid to destination) in red. Pre-payment to France was not required, carried by the steamer "Imperatrice Eugenie", Ligne B postmark, plus transit and arrival markings on back, fine and splendid cover, one of only three recorded usages of a Maximilian Issue together with a French stamp, illustrated in Mexican Maritime Mail (plate A), with 1992 Mepsi cert.
