MEXICO BRITISH SHIPS - 1865 1/2r rate to Austria
1865 The Royal Mail Steam Packet Company made available the special 1/2 real rate to Austrian and Belgian soldiers serving with the French forces supporting Emperor Maximilian. A small cover from Mexico City (October) to Vienna, Austria, franked with +r dull purple Eagle (Mexico district) by British ships "Eider" (October 2 to St. Thomas, arriving October 12) and "Shannon" to Southampton, rated 1 shilling 3 pence due to England, with Aachen transit (October 31) with 80sgr (blue crayon) and charged "80" kreuzer (red crayon) due on arrival, with boxed Vienna 1 November datestamp on back, fine cover from a French Foreign Legionnaire, carried by a British ship, with Peter Holcombe cert.
