COLOMBIA Air Post
1919 First Experimental Air Mail Flight, Barranquilla to Puerto Colombia to Barranquilla by American aviator William Knox Martin, June 18, 1919. On this occasion, 200 copies of 2centavo stamps were overprinted at Barranquilla Printing Office. This was executed in horizontal strips of ten, which were severed with a guillotine knife, causing horizontal perforations to have a "cut" appearance. Of the total stamps issued, 160 were used on covers on the special flight. An unused single, with dried gum as often, separated by knife at top, signed Champion etc. (YT PA1)

COLOMBIA Air Post
1920 Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aerea was founded September 28, 1919. In February 1920, the C.C.N.A. obtained a franchise to fly between Cartagena and Barranquilla and was authorized to issue its own stamps. This was facilitated by overprinting "Compania Colombiana de Navegacion Aerea Porte Aereo" and surcharging "$ 0.10" on the Curtiss Aereo Plane & Motor Co. advertising labels. Less than 100 of each of the nine types were produced. These stamps were used on two first flights on February 22, 1920 from Cartagena and returning March 4 from Barranquilla. In July 1920, the air mail concession was passed to SCADTA. The C.C.N.A. ceased to operate in April, 1922. The complete set of nine values, unused without gum as issued, fresh and very fine condition, without the usual faults that plague this most popular air post issue, signed Herbert Bloch, all (except C4) are accompanied by Friedl certificates from the 1970s. A rare opportunity to obtain the complete set of these beautiful stamps, in excellent condition (YT PA2-10)

It is difficult to establish the exact status of these stamps. The company (Scadta) was pre-occupied with other problems at that time and did not check on details of the surcharge. Due to the fact that original stamp was a 50centavo value, there was no reason to object to the devalued surcharges, as the company collected the original face value of the stamps. Even if they were produced by one of the employees, these surcharges were affixed on mail actually flown by Scadta

These manuscript provisionals were necessitated by the stamp shortage caused by the disappearance of 16,000 30c stamps from the ship "Christian Horn". 1923 In 1923 many stamps, including 640 sheets of the 30c value, disappeared from a shipment sent by the steamer "Christian Horn". This was a substantial financial loss and in order to detect the missing stamps, the remaining stock were overprinted with a small control "dot" (secret dot). The color of the dot is the same as the stamp and the overprinted values are sometimes difficult to notice. They exist mostly on the 30c value and are also known on 10c and 60c. A specialized collection, with a photocopy of a short article from "El Tiempo" November 24, 1923 edition explaining the problem, mounted exhibition style on pages, with 63 covers including eight with 10c, thirteen with 60c, balance with the 30c value, with earliest known usage (November 19,1923), mixed frankings, combinations, 20c black (instead of gray) overprinted "R", used with 10c (with secret dot), 30c with double dot (one of only two known on cover) and more, some quite spectacular, different destinations etc. An important collection of the Secret Dots, ex-Alex Rendon. Because of the theft of the 640 sheets, the 30c value ran out and provisional surcharges had to be made. Scadta discontinued the "dot" surcharges on subsequent printings.
