1861 Paris Print, folded letter sent from Messolongkion to Patras on 1 October, 1861, the first day of circulation of the Large Hermes Heads, franked with 20Lep Prussian Blue, cancelled and tied by "49" numeral postmark, with corresponding "Messolongkion 1 Oct. 61" cds alongside, v.f., with Patras 2 October arrival pmk on back, handstamped "G.Lascarides", with 1983 Peter Holcombe and 2003 Michael Tseriotis Certificates (cover signed by both of them), ex-Lascarides and Holcombe collections. One of the rarities of Greek Philately, only five First Day Covers are recorded

1871-72 40Lep lilac rose on greenish, the so-called "Solferino", used, with good to large margins all around, excellent color, cancelled lozenge "2" of Piraeus, small tear at left, very fine appearance of this legendary stamp, of which only 13 have been recorded. This is example VII in the Williams classification, ex-Jones and Maximus collections (Lot 10164, November 6, 1985, price realized 172,500 SFr), with 2003 Michael Tseriotis cert. The "Solferino" got its name after the infamous battle, where it was rumored that the blood on the dead soldier's uniforms had this particular color,
