The "Dot After 10" Printing Error
10k brown & blue, left sheet margin single, cancelled by pen, fine. This is the most important variety of Plate I. Franz Kepler, the German engraver who designed the plate, inserted a dot following "10" to read as "10.kop". While this waslogical in the German language, it was not accepted and the dot was eliminated from the plate. One cliche escaped destruction and this variety was localized in the first row of plate I
