| Lot #900 MARIANA ISLANDS Witu (located within modern Kenya) became a German Protectorate in 1885 at request of its Sultan Ahmed. Clemens Denhardt was appointed minister for foreign and interior affairs. In 1889 the Denhardt brothers issued 96 different stamps which are today regarded as world-class rarities when postally used on cover. In 1890 Germany withdrew its protectorate over Witu as a result of the Anglo-German Treaty. The Brothers Clemens and Gustav Denhardt fled to Germany. | Unsold | |
