Welcome to our July 12-14, 2022 Sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, which will take place at our Teaneck, N.J. Galleries and over the internet via CherrystoneLIVE and StampAuctionNetwork (SAN). This 1,713-lot sale features United States and Possessions, with 19th & 20th Century single rarities, 1869 Inverted Centers, Special Printings, graded items, Plate Blocks and back of the book material. Foreign countries include Austria, China, Egypt, France and Colonies, Germany with a selection of WWII Occupation Issues, as well as WWI covers from POW Camps, including Japan. Great Britain and British Commonwealth feature high values from Australia, BNA and British Africa. There are rarities from Iran, including postal history, Italy and Italian Colonies, Nepal, Netherlands and Colonies, Panama, Russia and other collecting areas. The auction concludes with over two hundred Large Lots and Collections, ranging from single country albums, specialized collections to multi-carton worldwide groups and large cover lots offered intact.

1916-18 selection of 28 cards and picture postcards (including two from German Cameroun), one double card pre-printed "Russie Prisonnier de Guerre Tobolsk", others mostly Red Cross cards from Petropavlovsk, Khabarovsk, Nikolsk and other POW camps, sent to Austria (including not-yet existing Czechoslovakia), Germany and Hungary, various censor markings, arrival pmks, etc.

1917 selection of 24 mostly pre-printed bilingual "Service de prisonniers de Guerre" cards, also two covers (one YMCA cover to Tokyo), sent from POWs in camps in Berezovka, Dauria, Tobolsk, Kansk, Chabarovsk, Nikolsk, Stretensk, etc., addressed to Austria, Japan, United States and Germany, two are from Danish Red Cross ("We have sent your letter to the Prisoner of War in Russia"), different censor markings, mostly fine

1919 cover franked on back with 4x35k, tied by Vladivostok departure pmks, registered from Atchinsk, with 16.5.19 departure pmk at bottom, addressed to Japanese Red Cross in Tokyo, Russian censor Vladivostok and Japanese label affixed on arrival, showing "Vendu par L'Agence International des Prisonniers de Guerre" handstamp on back, interesting post-war usage from Siberia to Japan

WORLD WAR I - Prisoner of War Camp Mail Russia (Siberia) - Austrian and German POWs
1920 (13 Mar) pre-printed card sent to Berlin from a German officer in a POW Camp in Nokolsk-Ussuryjsk. By this time, the area and the Camp were under Japanese Control, hence there are Japanese censor markings and transit pmk, corner clipped at lower left, otherwise fine. In addition, there is a flimsy Red Cross card from Nikolsk, written Jan 25, 1920 and sent to Austria
