Fred Blau POLAND Flight Covers
1937 (23 Nov) Palestine to Poland, Lydda to Warsaw leg, registered and flown LOT cover addressed to Romania, with label (in French) indicating "burnt, ripped open, dirty from destruction of the airplane on 23 November 1938 in the mountain of Pirin" (a LOT Douglas DC-2-115D (registered SP-ASJ) crashed in Bulgaria's Pirin Mountains in bad weather, killing all six on board. The aircraft was operating a scheduled Thessaloniki-Sofia passenger service and crashed during a heavy snow storm on Mount Jel-Tepe. It was found four days later by a search group of 3000 Bulgarian soldiers). Cover in reasonable condition, Haifa, Hadar ha Carmel and Lydda departure, Sofia and Sveti Vratch transit and Bucharest (11 Dec) arrival pmks. Also accompanied by copies of the articles about the crash (The Palestine Post). Only 2 (!) pieces of mail were found in the wreck (Fi.134, 13,000zl)
