Lot #4050
United States 1893 Columbian Exposition
1893 4c blue, error of color, block of four, n.h., natural straight edge at top, top left stamp with natural inclusion and top right stamp with small tear, minor perf. separations, otherwise fine-v.f. and rare block of four of this error, with 2014 PFC certificate for a block of nine from which this came (the 4c Columbian color error was caused by the use of a wrong batch of ink, and spectrographic analysis has shown that the blue inks of the 4c error and 1c Columbian have the same components. Stamps from at least two panes reached collectors, and it is likely that many of the stamps have been lost to philately)
