 | Lot #492 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH AUSTRALIA Flight Covers 1937 First Solo flight from Brisbane to Capetown by Mrs. H.B. Bonney, cover franked with Australian 1/2p (2), 3p and Queensland 1p red, Delhi leg, where Indian adhesives were added and cancelled by 12 May 1935 datestamp, return flight to Australia, with appropriate cachet (on both sides) and additional markings on back, signed by Mrs. Bonney, v.f. (in the 1930s Lores Bonney created aviation history by being the first woman to fly around Australia, the first to fly from Australia to England and the first to fly from Australia to South Africa. Until recently her accomplishments have never received the recognition they deserve. In 1932 she set an Australian distance record for a woman by flying from Brisbane to her family's home in Wangaratta, Victoria. Later that year, she gained her "A" class commercial pilot's license and became the first airwoman to circumnavigate Australia.
