 | Lot #1213 BRITISH COMMONWEALTH AUSTRALIA 1849 (6 Jan) FL sent by Charles Meredith (Member of Tasmanian Parliament who twice served as Colonial Treasurer) in Great Swan Port (Tasmania) to Thomas McQuoid in Waniassa (what is now a suburb of Canberra), endorsed "Sea Postage Paid 5d" and "Swansea 6.1.49", with tombstone Paid and Sydney arrival, fine. Mr. McQuoid was one of the first settlers in what became known as the Australian Capital Territory, ex Dr. Ed Druce who stated "This is the earliest known letter associated with the A.C.T"  | Price Realized $400.00 |
