1941 "Adventure South", the Richardson Pan-American Highway Expedition, one of the greatest automotive stories of all time. The Richardson Expedition crossed not only this country, but encompassed the area spanning two continents, crossing trackless wilderness, endless mud, unchartered territory and obstacles of every sort. The men of the expedition, Sullivan C Richardson, Arnold Whitaker and Kenneth C. Van Hee were called "Three Damn Fools" by friends and foes alike, their Pan American Highway Expedition was a great automotive adventure, as illustrated by the contents of this archive, which includes seven large cacheted covers, each franked on both sides with (more or less) 49 different stamps (United States, Chile, Salvador, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia, Uruguay), canceled at each and posted from Chile (August 1941), carried around Cape Horn; also additional 51 smaller covers, 17 legal size and similarly franked on both sides, others just Chilean franking, many with Detro
