| Lot #424 FRENCH COLONIES Algeria 1940 cover from Laghouat Internment camp (mailing address c/o U.S. Consul, Algiers), at the edge of the Sahara Desert, administered by the Vichy French and supervised by the Italo-German Armistice Commission, with "Opened by Examiner 445" label, French hs and Laghouat, Alger cds, fine. This camp held mostly RAF airmen shot down over the Mediterranean; sender of this cover, Capt. A.R. Cooper, was apparently a secret agent with SOE (Special Operations Executive), arrested by the Vichy, who later escaped. An interesting item
