United States - Air Post Flight Covers
1927 (29 June) Byrd Transatlantic Flight, commercial cover with "City of Philadelphia Office of the Mayor" corner cachet (franking has fallen off), with June 21 New York G.P.O. pmk, addressed to Monsieur Gaston Doumergue, President of the Republic of France, Paris France, "via Airship America", with "Ver sur Mer" 2.7.27 arrival pmk. The monoplane "America" took off from New York and after a 42 hour flight was forced to land on the beach. The mail pouch was soaked and hence this cover shows some evidence of waterlogging. Most of the mail carried was of philatelic nature and this is one of only a few commercial covers carried by Commander Byrd

1933 (15 July) attempted Ocean Flight, New York to Lithuania by Capt. Stefan Darius and Stanley Girenas, flight cover from New York to Kaunas, Lithuania, July 15, 1933 "Lituanica" cancel, franked with 3c violet, v.f., with six line cachet, signed by both pilots. Both flyers died when their plane was wrecked at Soldin, Germany, about 400 miles short of their goal. Mail was delivered to Kaunas on July 18, 1933, with arrival pmk
