Lot #3276
R.S.F.S.R. 1922 Workers and Soldiers Issue
1922 70r Red Army Soldier, imperforate error in cliche of 100r in sheetlet of 25, lightly hinged in top and bottom margins only, slight adhesions affect both the error and the adjoining stamp at left, minor and natural gum creases, v.f. Without a doubt, this is considered to be one of the greatest rarities of Russian Philately. Only four (!) complete sheetlets of 25 are known to exist (including one in the Popov Museum of Communication in St. Petersburg. Posted on their website, the Museum promotes the "The celebrated Red Army Soldier of the 1922-23 standard issue is a well known world class rarity. It is a sheet of twenty-five imperforate orange stamps; the twelfth stamp has the denomination of 70 rubles, not of 100 rubles as all the others"). This is one of the treasures of Russian philately in general and certainly an important highlight of Russian Soviet Federated Republic collection,
