Calhoun as Secretary of War, fascinating contents (dealing with the opening up of the West and sectionalism), War of 1812 and Mexican War letters, Civil War Patriotic cover with letters of contents (expertly transcribed), early ship letters (originating in Barbados, Horta, Punta Arenas, Funchal), plus others, few foreign covers, mixed condition, generally fine and interesting lot, with much historical significance

1930s-80s Naval Covers, specialized collection of hundreds in albums and boxes, with particular emphasis on the Asiatic Fleet, with many postmarks of Chefoo, Shanghai, Pekin, U.S. Marine Detachment American Embassy, Tsingtao, Yangtze River patrol boats, special album with U.S.S. Chicago covers, also U.S.S. Pecos, Paul Jones, Perry and others. In addition, there is a small group of covers used in 1879, addressed to U.S.S. Ships "Dictator," "Omaha" and "Minnesota," mostly fine-v.f.
